Brunel’s SS Great Britain is among 40 European museums short-listed for the prestigious European Museum of the Year Award.
Being Brunel opened at Brunel’s SS Great Britain in March 2018, adding a substantial new museum at the top-rated Bristol attraction. The new museum, together with the Brunel Institute which is also part of the visitor attraction, contains the world’s most significant Brunel collection, much of which is now on public display for the first time. Visitors can also step into vivid recreations of Brunel’s office and family dining room as well as the restored 1840s dock offices.
As well as the EMYA nomination, Being Brunel has received multiple accolades including Best UK Project from the British Guild of Travel Writers.
The EMYA nomination showcases Being Brunel on the international stage, with just three UK museums in the running alongside others from 16 countries including Switzerland, Russia, Netherlands, Finland, Denmark and Austria. Following a rigorous judging process, the winning museum will be announced on 25 May 2019.
