A new nationwide initiative, known as Britain Unites, is being launched by a group of UK travel industry professionals to offer NHS workers free or discounted tickets to a wide variety of attractions, venues, restaurants and bars at the end of the COVID-19 lockdown.
The group are currently developing an online directory featuring all the venues that have agreed to make an offer. Once live, NHS staff will be able to easily view and book their experiences and receive their complimentary or discount tickets.
The campaign is the brainchild of tourism expert Emma-Jane Nutbrown. She said, “The pandemic brought tourism to a standstill causing huge job and revenue losses. At the same time our NHS has been on the front line risking their lives for us. As an industry, we wanted to find a way to give back to them, whilst helping to stimulate tourism again and reviving our country’s venues.
“For me, tourism is the industry of dreams, and we’re in a position to offer them all a break from the pandemic, whether that be a meal out on-the-house or a visit to country’s incredible selection of attractions.”
Natalie Brown, a Britain Unites committee member and International Sales Manager at The Original Tour and Bath Bus Company (both part of Extrapolitan) said, “We are proud to be part of the national response from the UK’s travel and tourism industry to the current crisis. COVID-19 has completely halted travel so through our efforts we hope to reignite domestic travel whilst offering a heartfelt thanks to our wonderful NHS.”
Further announcements will be made in due course on the launch of the directory – please follow linkedin.com/company/britain-unites. If you would like your venue to be involved please email [email protected].
