The South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA) is a new industry-led management and marketing organisation for the South of Scotland – including Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders.
MBTAG, the Midlothian and Borders Tourism Action Group, will merge into the SSDA and continue its work from the last three years across the entire South of Scotland region.
Following the recent announcement about a £2.7m funding award from the newly formed South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) towards a five-year destination development programme just under £4m are now ready to go and put the region on the map. The funding has provided the South of Scotland with a huge opportunity and is the first step to realising the ambition to develop the region into a year-round, first-class destination.
The SSDA programme is focused on supporting the tourism, leisure and hospitality industry and building a membership community across the region. Initially, this will be focused on recovery post Covid-19, but will also include business, product and skills development programmes, travel trade programmes and consumer destination marketing campaigns with an aim to become self-sustainable through memberships, sponsorships, partnerships and commercial agreements, within five years.
