Residents and locals of Bath can enjoy festive decorations around the city this winter. Christmas lights will add to the seasonal atmosphere, with some of Bath’s most iconic buildings bought to life by the Bath BID with stunning new illuminations on Bath Abbey, The Roman Baths, Northumberland Place, The Podium Garden and St Swithin’s Church.
Locals can expect to see the Natural Theatre Company’s characters wandering on the city streets, as they put on Christmas Shows Without A Theatre. The city centre will be aglow over the weekend of the 19 and 20 December with ArtSeen’s illuminated lantern rickshaws, while Milsom Street will be twinkling, and many shops will be joyfully dressed in festive decorations. Film Bath will be bringing some screen action to Green Park Station with an eclectic programme of independent films from 11 – 16 December and Bath Abbey Quarter Makers will be selling their locally made produce and crafts every weekend from 10am to 6pm.
Exhibitions, Indoor Events and Christmas Trails
Bath Carnival’s wreath-making workshops are ideal for any locals who want to get into the festive spirit. Residents and locals can also pop into the Night & Day: 1930s Fashion and Photographs at American Museum and Gardens, which has been extended until 20 December along with a brand new light trail in the gardens and catch Grayson Perry: Pre-Therapy Years at The Holburne before it finishes on 3 January 2021. Avon Valley will be running their popular Santa Steam Specials on various dates in December (advance booking essential) and Christmas at The Palace, Bishops Palace, Wells from 5 to 20 December, will see the gardens dressed in a winter woodland theme with Christmas lights and a nativity scene. If you’re a Christmas carol lover, don’t miss Bath Bach Choir at The Assembly Rooms 18 and 19 December.
Every day between 1 and 24 December, Father Christmas will be visiting a different business around the city with his festive post box. The Bath BID will be posting clues online to help you find where Father Christmas will be stationed each day, and visitors are invited to give him a wave and post their Christmas wishes through his socially distanced post box.
