The team at Visit Gloucester have conducted research in order to discover the most Instagrammed cathedrals across the UK. Based on Instagram’s hashtag data for every cathedral in the UK, Visit Gloucester have complied a list of the top ten most Instagrammed cathedrals, for the UK as a whole, as well as for each country.
The results show the top 10 most Instagrammed cathedrals in the UK were:
- London Cathedral (St Paul’s) – 428,202 photos
- Salisbury Cathedral – 62,833 photos
- Durham Cathedral – 62,637 photos
- Lincoln Cathedral – 60,986 photos
- Canterbury Cathedral – 55,826 photos
- Winchester Cathedral – 37,456 photos
- Liverpool Cathedral – 35,713 photos
- Ely Cathedral – 34,721 photos
- Gloucester Cathedral – 31,261 photos
- Norwich Cathedral – 31,228 photos
The data shows that out of the top 25 cathedrals in the United Kingdom, 22 of them are Church of England cathedrals, one is a Roman Catholic Church and the remaining two are Church of Scotland.
The research also revealed the most popular cathedrals in England, Scotland and Wales. The top three Instagrammed cathedrals in England were:
- London Cathedral (St Paul’s) – 428,202 photos
- Salisbury Cathedral – 62,833 photos
- Durham Cathedral – 62,637 photos
The top three most Instagrammed cathedrals in Wales are:
- St David’s Cathedral – 8,679 photos
- Llandaff Cathedral – 4,376 photos
- Brecon Cathedral – 905 photos
Finally, the top three most Instagrammed cathedrals in Scotland are:
- Edinburgh St Giles Cathedral – 25,976 photos
- Glasgow Cathedral – 22,673 photos
- Inverness Cathedral – 996 photos
