Celebrate the Christmas holidays with Historic Royal Palaces in some of the world’s most historic and memorable settings, from the iconic Tower of London to the majestic Hampton Court Palace.
From 7 December 2021 – 3 January 2022 at Hampton Court Palace, an enchanting and playful evening light trail will offer visitors the chance to explore magical lighting projections, illuminations and lanterns in a unique historical setting. Inspired by the Palace’s famous astronomical clock, the illuminated cobbled courtyards and gardens will reveal a glittering wonderland of clocks and moons planet and sundials as dusk falls. The twilight trail will be a separately ticketed event and an ideal end to a day exploring the State Apartments. More information will be available on the Historic Royal Palaces website.
Many of today’s Christmas traditions were popularised by the Victorians, such as Christmas cards and the decorated tree. From 1 December 2021 – 6 January 2022, the childhood home of Queen Victoria, Kensington Palace, will be decked with period style decorations. The legendary Tower of London will also provide a stunning backdrop for Christmas with festive decorations throughout the famous fortress.
Hillsborough Castle and Gardens will host a brand new festive trail, its paths becoming sparkling tunnels of light from 7 December 2021 – 3 January 22. Guests can walk under giant baubles and beneath trees drenched in jewel-like colour, pause at the mesmerising flickering flames in the garden whilst looking for Father Christmas along the way, and complete the experience with a spiced winter warmer or a hot chocolate. The trail will be a separately ticketed, timed admission event so booking early is recommended.
