The winners were chosen based on more than 9,000 consumer votes cast between 27 September and 19 October. More than 60 Regional Remarkable Venue Award Winners, chosen based on visitor reviews on Tiqets.com and a panel of tourism experts, competed to take home the title of Global Winner in their category.
From Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle to Portugal’s Oceanario de Lisboa, this year’s Global Winners were voted best in their category by thousands of travel and culture lovers from around the world. The Iberian peninsula was especially popular among consumers this year, with Spain and Portugal taking home five of seven awards based on consumer votes.
The awards ceremony where the winners were announced also included a keynote address by Kellee Edwards, a travel expert who hosts her own travel show and a podcast with Travel + Leisure. During her speech ‘Get Lost Through Travel’, Edwards, who’s been named one of the most powerful women in Travel by Conte Nast, focused on how museums and attractions can evoke a sense of adventure in their experiences.
