Loganair, the UK’s largest regional airline has unveiled its biggest-ever programme of flights for Newcastle Airport during summer 2023. The airline is offering customers access to almost 200,000 seats through the city from March 2023, following a strong travel recovery in 2022.The popularity of this year’s services has allowed Loganair to base a second permanent Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft at Newcastle Airport, increasing skilled employment in the north east city and boosting the local economy. The additional aircraft also continues to offer customers jet comfort on its routes in and out of the city. Flight bookings can now be made, with new routes and additional frequencies starting from March 2023.

The expansion plans feature the return of up to double daily flights to Aberdeen, together with the addition of a Newcastle to Oslo via Aberdeen route, where passengers boarding at Newcastle can stay on the plane until disembarkation in Norway. The success of Loganair from Newcastle in Summer 2022 has also prompted the airline to increase the frequency of its Southampton service from two to up to three flights daily. Back by popular demand is the Aberdeen to Southampton flight operating via Newcastle and customers will not need to leave the aircraft on the one-stop service.

Customers will also be able to fly to Newquay and Bergen twice a week, while flights to Exeter have been boosted from three to up to five per week.

The plans are topped-off by a return to the pre-pandemic frequency of up to five flights per week between Newcastle and Stavanger. With strong demand expected for these services, Loganair encourages customers to book as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment and to avail of the best value fares.

Luke Lovegrove, Chief Commercial Officer at Loganair said, “This bumper schedule for 2023 underlines our commitment to Newcastle with our biggest ever programme for the city, offering customers more choice of destinations, frequency and capacity than ever before.

“It has been a very positive year for Loganair at Newcastle and we are excited to see that success continue into 2023.”

Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development at Newcastle International Airport said, “This biggest ever capacity increase by Loganair is a great vote of confidence in both the airport and the region, and further strengthens our partnership.

“The investment will provide more choice for passengers flying from Newcastle, create more jobs at the airport and across the wider area, and increase opportunities for the attraction of inbound tourists to the North East.

“Loganair also provides connectivity to important business destinations, so this announcement will further boost the growth in business travel.”
