National Trust for Scotland has announced re-development plans for the Glenfinnan visitor facilities to help address capacity challenges during the high season.

In 2023, National Trust for Scotland welcomed over 550,000 people from across the globe to its visitor centre at Glenfinnan – a village world renowned for its Jacobite monument and steam train crossing the railway viaduct. Investment begins this year, with the introduction of an out-of-hours toilet (available for use after the visitor centre closes) and the relocation of accessible parking bays, to optimise safety and capacity in the coach parking area (work will take place in the spring).

In light of these plans and having now reviewed the 2023 experience with the local community, National Trust for Scotland have made the decision to jointly increase their car park charges (after four years with no rise), and, to charge for coach parking for the first time. All the funds from contribute directly to current and future investment at Glenfinnan. Charges will not be in place between November and March.

From April 2024, travel trade partners are requested to pay a charge to park in the NTS coach/bus parking area (April to October). National Trust for Scotland recognises that this a is late notice for some tour organisers and  the coach parking charge will be a single fee, calculated at a rate of £1 per passenger in 2024 and £2 per passenger in 2025 onwards. Existing National Trust for Scotland travel trade clients can either pay on the day or can submit their voucher to the staff at Glenfinnan Visitor Centre on arrival. Coaches that do not have a National Trust for Scotland travel trade account will be required to pay on the day by cash or card to a member of the welcome team in the car/coach park or at the retail desk.

The coach parking area will continue to operate on a first-come-first-served basis, and those visiting may not be permitted to enter when it reaches a safe maximum capacity; Parking spaces can only be pre-booked by tour groups who have organised a Monument tour package.
