Frameless has announced the relaunch of one of its four main galleries this summer, The World Around Us.

This update, the most significant change to the multi-award-winning experience since its launch in 2022, will feature new masterpieces reimagined through the integration of art, music, animation, and cutting-edge technology to provide visitors with an enhanced, emotionally engaging experience.

Visitors can expect to embark on an evocative journey, encountering five new immersive artworks by globally revered artists such as Hokusai and Van Gogh, alongside seven existing pieces that have been reimagined in collaboration with BAFTA award-winning VFX studio and Frameless’ Official Production Partner Cinesite. Cinesite is known for its work on the Harry Potter and James Bond films.

New research reveals that one in three parents have never taken their child to an art gallery. In response, Frameless is encouraging families to explore the new artworks this summer holiday. As part of an initiative launched by arts podcaster and actor Russell Tovey, Frameless is seeking five new youth advisors to offer their perspectives, attend exclusive previews, and interact with the creatives behind the London experience.

One of the new features includes Hokusai’s iconic woodblock print, The Great Wave, which is combined with two other works to create a towering three-dimensional scene of Mount Fuji. The experience is enhanced by a traditional musical composition that shifts dramatically with the sound of Japanese war drums as the wave builds.

Van Gogh’s Almond Blossom offers a serene moment with drifting petals and a soothing soundscape, reflecting a happy time in Van Gogh’s life symbolised by the blooming almond blossoms.

Visitors can also experience Grimshaw’s Reflections on the Thames, Westminster, brought to life with immersive soundscapes and visual details, such as the silhouette of Jack the Ripper and a modern Ferris wheel representing the London Eye.

A new Canaletto presentation features works from his Canal Series, creating an atmospheric Venetian scene complete with spatial audio, allowing visitors to hear different sounds as they move around the gallery.

Remastered artworks in collaboration with Cinesite include Friedrich’s Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire, Ruysch’s Tree Trunk surrounded by Flowers, Butterflies and Animals, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Rembrandt’s Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee, and Monet’s Boat on the Seine near Jeufosse.

In addition to the new artworks, Frameless offers an extensive programme of activities this summer, including the Let’s Talk About Art initiative, Lates for over 18s, Multi-Sensory Tots classes for parents and toddlers, Chilled Sessions designed for those who prefer less busy public spaces, and emerging artists’ residencies. The venue also features an art-inspired café bar and a gift shop filled with unique items.

Located in a 30,000 square-foot venue in Marble Arch, Frameless is the UK’s first permanent large-scale digital immersive art experience. With four distinct curated galleries showcasing unique interpretations of 42 masterpieces by artists such as Canaletto, Dalí, Kandinsky, Klimt, Monet, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh, Frameless aims to break the boundaries of traditional art experiences through the use of the latest projection technology.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Frameless residencies, this summer visitors can enjoy a complimentary show featuring highlights from the past year’s artists, including RCA graduates and acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Maliha Abidi. This special exhibition, located in Frameless’ pop-up fifth gallery, ‘Blank Canvas’, is available to anyone who purchases a ticket during standard opening hours until October 2024.
