Ian Macleod has announced the opening of the Edinburgh Gin Distillery at the Arches, offering travel trade rates for bookable experiences.
Located on East Market Street, this modern gin distillery produces all of the gin for the brand. It is built on the site of the historic Trinity Church, where the foundation for botanical exploration was laid centuries ago. The distillery blends preserved features such as landmark arches and exposed brickwork with contemporary additions like floor-to-ceiling windows, a roof terrace, a stylish bar, and two custom copper stills.
The new 2,000L stills – named after early female gardeners from the Royal Botanical Gardens – were crafted in Germany by skilled coppersmiths. A smaller still is also used for experimental purposes. These stills serve a functional role and represent a commitment to quality and craftsmanship in gin production.
The distillery is designed using 100% renewable electricity, making it carbon neutral. Additionally, the brand has embraced eco-friendly packaging, including bottles made with 49% recycled glass, recyclable labels, and eliminating secondary packaging in the core range.
With panoramic city views, the distillery combines rich history with innovation, offering visitors a chance to engage in immersive experiences. The four available experiences allow guests to explore the history of gin and the flavours and botanicals that define the signature gins. Each experience is led by knowledgeable staff, providing a comprehensive and sensory tour of the distillery.
Finlay Nicol, Distillery Manager at Edinburgh Gin said, “This launch is a true milestone for the brand, representing our relentless dedication to innovation and excellence in all things gin. We believe this is more than just a distillery — it’s a testament of our rich heritage, knowledge and commitment to sustainability, and our brand-new stills alone are an embodiment of this.”
Melissa Rickerby, Brand Homes Manager Edinburgh Gin commented, “We’ve crafted unforgettable programmes for the new distillery which are as expertly curated as our spirits, so we can’t wait for visitors to experience them. These new experiences offer a deep dive into the intricate art and science of gin making, led by passionate experts who bring every detail of our process to life, offering a truly immersive journey through the world of gin.”
The Edinburgh Gin Distillery at The Arches is open everyday from 10am to 9pm.
