Alnwick Castle’s Broomstick Training, archery and craft demonstrations are all returning this April. Visitors can look to restart their Broomstick Training at the Castle, the exact same place where Harry Potter honed his skills on the broom for his first-ever Quidditch encounters.
The world-famous Broomstick Training will be amongst the first activities to return following the government’s easing of restrictions announced mid-April. Alnwick Castle’s grounds will again be buzzing with fun and entertainment, as families will be free to roam around to explore and enjoy the extensive grounds. All activities outdoors except archery are free as part of admission and the lovely setting is a treat in itself. The daffodils are in full bloom, carpeting a vast area of the grounds and can be expected to be blooming through until the end of May.
Visitors who want to master archery like one of Robin Hood’s merry men can try their hands at archery under an expert adding to the medieval atmosphere of the ancient castle.
James Boyd, Activities manager said, “I think all our staff are excited and seeing people having fun makes it all worthwhile. Opening the outside entertainment first is a sensible step, and we’re already looking forward to an excellent summer. Of course, our next milestone is going to be having visitors inside the castle and our other indoor events.”
From step two in the Government roadmap the castle’s outdoor activities and entertainment will recommence including archery and the world-famous Broomstick Training. If the national plan is unchanged, it is expected that the castle itself and all indoor facilities will re-open from 17 May.
Social distancing rules for visitors and staff alike will be needed and safety is a priority for the whole of 2021. As a result, visitor numbers will be capped each day to avoid crowding. That makes booking in advance even more important than ever to avoid disappointment.
