Discover® Global Network has partnered with Bluecode to expand the global acceptance of its European mobile payment system. The integration of ‘Payment Roaming’ will enable users to make secure and privacy-compliant international mobile payments.
The collaboration allows Bluecode to be used at over 70 million merchant acceptance points worldwide through NFC, barcode, and QR code payments. This agreement ensures interoperability between Bluecode and global payment solutions, maintaining European data privacy and security standards while enabling international mobile payments. The strategic partnership strengthens European payment systems globally, ensuring user data remains exclusively with their bank.
Discover® Global Network connects more than 25 domestic payment schemes globally, encompassing the Discover® Network, Diners Club International®, and various network alliances, including RuPay from India, Elo from Brazil, and Troy from Turkey. This network reaches over 70 million merchant acceptance points worldwide, with availability currently enabled for a closed user group and planned for broader rollout by Bluecode issuing banks.
The collaboration underscores Bluecode’s goal of establishing a global payment system based on ‘Payment Roaming’, enabling international mobile payments for European users. Bluecode is working to make its payment system interoperable with other national solutions worldwide while adhering to European independence, security, data protection, and privacy principles. This approach ensures that all Bluecode payments remain scheme transactions, with personal data staying exclusively with the user’s bank.
Ricardo Leite, Senior Vice President of International Markets, Discover® Global Network said, “Our collaboration with Bluecode is a prime example, of how the Discover®Global Network can bring value to European domestic schemes, banks, merchants, and users.
