Moxy Glasgow Merchant City Hotel has recently reopened, offering a contemporary update to a historic area with roots dating back to the 1750s. The surrounding neighbourhood, now home to various independent businesses, reflects the area’s ongoing transformation while maintaining its rich heritage.

The hotel’s transformation centres around a revitalised social hub called ‘The Now’, which includes the revamped Bar Moxy, where visitors can enjoy a range of cocktails, beers, and low-alcohol options from morning until night. Additionally, The Lounge and The Play Zone, featuring foosball and board games, provide a space for relaxation and entertainment.

Moxy Glasgow Merchant City has also upgraded 16 of its 181 rooms to ‘Lookout Rooms’, which offer cityscape views. The hotel now has a total capacity of 380 guests, catering to business travellers during the week and leisure guests on weekends and holidays.

Ross Saunder, Cluster General Manager said, “Our aim is to blend the distinct Moxy brand spirit with the vibrant character of Glasgow. We’re excited to welcome back our guests and offer them an environment that feels like a home away from home.”

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Moxy brand has evolved to appeal to a broader range of guests. Originally designed with Gen X and Y in mind, Moxy now attracts visitors of all ages. The transformation of Moxy Glasgow Merchant City reflects this inclusive spirit, offering a fresh and unique experience for everyone.

The reopening is expected to attract an estimated 70,000 guests in the first year. While the hotel currently operates without formal partnerships with local businesses, it remains open to such collaborations to enrich the guest experience further. Sustainability is a key part of the hotel’s narrative. Built on remediated brown-field land with cross-laminated timber and green energy, Moxy Glasgow Merchant City was recently awarded Green Key certification, aligning with its sister properties across Scotland.
