Visitors to Rosslyn Chapel can now view its intricate stone carvings with improved clarity following recent refurbishment. The lighting in The Lady Chapel, one of the chapel’s most ornate areas, and the Sacristy have been upgraded to better illuminate the detailed craftsmanship.
The project was carried out by Stoane Lighting, a local company based in Loanhead, Midlothian. The improved lighting enhances the visibility of key carvings, including the ‘dance of death,’ the nativity scene, a group of angels playing musical instruments, and some of the well-known ‘green men’ sculptures in The Lady Chapel.
Rosslyn Chapel was founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair. Its rich history, intricate stonework, and symbolic carvings have drawn interest for centuries. The Chapel gained wider recognition after being featured in Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code and its film adaptation.
Located seven miles south of Edinburgh, Rosslyn Chapel remains open to visitors year-round.
