Select Travel Service has been appointed to help develop and introduce the innovative project US Connections to the US travel industry.
The groups-only ground handler is working closely with select partners to develop and promote itineraries associated with three key themes: United Allies (WW1 and WW2), The Origins of Faith, and Old Stories.
US Connections, a Discover England Fund project, is a large-scale collaboration between 13 destinations, led by Destination Plymouth, and is set to develop a series of new, immersive, bookable themed visitor experiences specifically for the American market.
The products and themes tap into the fascination of the many connections between England and America, and have been built around identified and tested themes including World War Two, the US military and the ‘special relationship’, migration and ancestry. The latter is particularly poignant in the lead up to 2020, which marks the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower’s historic voyage from Plymouth to the New World.
Chief Executive of VisitBritain/VisitEngland Sally Balcombe said, “This project will boost international and domestic visitor growth, creating a step-change in the industry and spreading the economic benefits of tourism across England. Our research shows that many US visitors come to Britain due to historic family connections and these ancestry themed itineraries wil inspire them to explore more of regional England.”
