The Historic Dockyard Chatham has announced the acts for its Salute to the ’40s event on 14 and 15 September 2024. The event will feature performances celebrating the music, culture, and history of the ’40s with a diverse range of acts and activities.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra, performing classic big band arrangements on Saturday, and The D-Day Darlings, known for their wartime-inspired music, will headline the main stage on Sunday. The stage will also feature jazz musician Randolph Matthews, The Bluebird Belles, and local groups such as Medway Can Sing.
The Matador Stage will offer a mix of jazz, swing, and dance, with performances by the Side by Side Jazz Duo, Sparky & Sprite, and DJs Reverend Boogie and Miss Aloha, who will also lead swing dance lessons. Community choirs will also perform, including the Medway Community Gospel Choir and Brompton Military Wives Choir.
New for 2024, the event will include family-friendly entertainment, such as circus acts by Pirates of the Carabina, whimsical performances by Rimski & Handkerchief, and interactive storytelling sessions about the Blitz by Dragonfly Tales. Visitors can also enjoy a cruise aboard the historic Sailing Barge Greta, Afternoon Tea at the Commissioner’s House, Jeep Tours, and an immersive Air Raid Shelter Experience.
