Since June 2017, UKinbound has supported Shaw Trust, a national charity which helps people to enter work, gain an education, develop their career, improve their well-being and rebuild their lives. The following is a summary of some of their key initiatives and recent activities:
Recruitment
- Provided support to the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham by providing candidates for placements and arranging a placement for a wheelchair-user for an administration role at a Hilton Hotel in London.
- Worked with The Royal Lancaster and Park Plaza hotels (London) to promote inclusivity and diversity into the workplace. They now regularly offer 4-week work placements for participants keen to learn about the hospitality sector.
St Jude’s Laundry
Shaw Trust run a not-for-profit laundry service in Edinburgh which was founded in 1963. It is staffed by individuals with mental health, physical or learning disabilities and offers a bespoke, hand finished commercial laundry service, providing excellent attention to detail. It is the only industrial laundry in Edinburgh, located only 15 minutes from the City Centre and has held a Royal Warrant for over 25 years. Corporate Volunteering
In October, C Space (a global marketing agency) won a Mayor of London’s volunteering award for their support to Shaw Trust. They supported job-seekers, horticulture social enterprise and provided pro bono support to the communications team. The UK’s most influential disabled people
Shaw Trust was proud to launch the Power 100 list of the UK’s most influential disabled people in London in October. The list showcases and provides a platform for Britain’s most influential people with a disability or impairment, and comprises athletes, entertainers, activists and CEOs. Skills London
The UK’s biggest jobs and careers event for 15-24 year olds and their families, is taking place on 23-24 November 2018. It is delivered by Prospects Events, part of the Shaw Trust group. The event attracts over 34,000 visitors and 250 exhibitors including top employers, colleges, universities, training providers and advisers. Accessibility Services
Shaw Trust Accessibility Services is a social enterprise supporting organisations to become digitally inclusive across a range of platforms internationally, including:
- Websites, mobile apps and other multi-media
- Identifying how buildings and premises can be accessible
- Training and consultancy to empower staff to offer inclusive customer services

Disabled Living Foundation
The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) is a national charity which is part of Shaw Trust and helps older and disabled people live independently. The charity has been providing impartial advice and information on daily living equipment and technology for nearly 50 years. More information is available here.
